Hog Roast Services Ltd has its roots firmly cemented in the outdoor catering and events industry. The platform for the business was founded in the late 1980s when Stephen Marsden, now managing director of Hog Roast Services started up a small hog roast catering company based in Lancashire. The operation soon began to grow and it wasn't before long that Spitting Pig became a nationwide operation and the market leader in hog and spit roast catering, as it still is today.

This was very early times for the hog and spit roast manufacturing industry and the majority of the machines available on the market were either homemade designs or imported from Australia. This often meant that the machines were unreliable, inconsistent and poorly suited to commercial outdoor catering. Furthermore, parts were difficult to source and after sales service just didn't exist. To combat this Stephen made changes to the imported machines to ensure that they produced results that matched the company's insistence on quality. With the amount of work the company was now getting through each year it wasn't before long that it soon became commercially viable to manufacture their own machines for their catering needs. This meant the company could control every aspect of the process and ensure that the hog and spit roast machines met their requirements. The new machines were a fantastic success, so much so that they began to attract interest from outside the business. There was huge demand in the market for a reliable, well built, quality machine from a company that could also provide the service and back-up and Spitting Pig sought to meet this demand.

However in order to scale up the manufacturing process successfully Spitting Pig enlisted the expertise of close friend James Alpe. James, an extremely successful local entrepreneur based in Clitheroe Lancashire, background lies in vehicle conversion and repair but these skills were readily transferred to product design and manufacture. With Stephen's vision and James's capabilities the foundations for success were laid. The third area of expertise was provided by Nigel Davies head of Pilot Gas and Electric, together the three friends were able to design hog roast machines that was perfectly suited to work in the commercial market. The success of product relied on ensuring that the machine was:

• Robust - creating a product that could handle the stresses and strains of the outdoor catering and events industry.
• Aesthetic - designing a product that looked not only looked professional but also was also pleasing to the eye and generated the 'wow' factor.
• Versatile - building a machine that could be used in a variety of ways to suit the user's needs and requirements.
• Ergonomic - making a product that was perfectly suited for ease of use and could be used without professional training or years of experience.
• Reliable - developing a machine that produced prefect results every time, cooked a variety of products to the users liking and needed minimal maintenance and cleaning after use.

Out of this was born what is now called our Commercial Range which contains both the Titan and Zeus models. The team realised that a successful product is born out of a constant desire to improve on what you have already created and to strive for perfection. Therefore during the last 20 years of production there has been a constant commitment to improve both our existing products and to develop new ones. Today you will find our 5 core values embedded in our design right across our various ranges.

However designing a successful product is only half the battle and what the market truly demanded was a company based in the UK that could provide a complete service. By taking on the responsibility of:

• Stocking all parts on site,
• Having next day delivery as standard
• Full CE and Gas safety certifications across all the ranges
• Providing instructional documents with every purchase
• Offering both on and off site servicing by Gas Safe qualified engineers who work with the machines
• Offering training programs, advise and business support

meant that customers now had a company that could provide a full service and more important one that they could trust. Soon it became apparent that the Spitting Pig brand no longer encompassed the full extent of the company's capabilities. The company was no longer just a catering company that happened to manufacture a product but an entity that offered a complete range of services to various markets. It was obvious a change was need. To better reflect the true nature of the company Hog Roast Services Ltd was born. Today Hog Roast Services is Europe largest manufacture of hog roast equipment selling machines all over the world and still offering a support service that is second to none and all this is done from our original factory in the Lancashire countryside.
